UrgentShake is a near real-time earthquake modeling system connected to the seismic monitoring network of Northeastern Italy. Developed on a robust and redundant HPC infrastructure, UrgentShake is still under active development. In particular, it has two main limitations: a) it currently takes only earthquake magnitude and location as inputs; b) it currently lacks an effective system for managing its data and metadata. Therefore, two different theses can be selected. The first aim of the first thesis is to integrate near real-time seismic recordings into the system and, by applying machine learning or other suitable techniques, select from a database of simulated scenarios the one that best matches the observed seismic data in near real-time. This approach will enable a rapid preliminary estimate of ground shaking. The aim of the second thesis is to implement a comprehensive data management framework, including an integrated search engine, to efficiently organize, store, and retrieve both seismic data and associated metadata, thereby enhancing accessibility and usability for researchers and operational applications.
