This thesis discusses the development of Geocatasto, a Java program to extract raw geographical information about the Italian Cadastre from raster maps downloaded from the Cadastral database. The desired output is a database linking polygons in geographic coordinates with tuples of Cadastral coordinates. The issues with scanning maps and reconstructing the desired information are discussed. The program is then applied over the entire Italian territory, and statistics about the reconstructed data are presented.
